Can Anyone Help A New Cigar Smoker?

I am interested in the fine cigar and truly do not know where to begin. Other than visiting my local cigar shop, any suggestions. Also, what is a good starter cigar?

A macanudo would be a milder cigar to try. The people that work in the smoke shop can give you the best advice. They have probably tried most if not all of the cigars they sell.
If you can find a time when they are not real busy, they will have more time to spend with you.
A few things to keep in mind when you stop by the store, Have a price range in mind, it will save time, no sense in having them show you several cigars that cost over 15 dollars a stick when your price range is between 5 and 10 dollars. Listen to their advice and try two or three different brands and sizes.
If you have a satellite radio there is a program on Saturday Called the Cigar Dave Show that is about cigars and some other things that can make cigar smoking an enjoyable experience.

Go to the cigar shop and ask them what they recommend, i am a big fan of AVO #2 tubos. last time i was at my local cigar shop i actually met Avo Uvezian, the maker of the cigars, great guy, i bought a box of cigars and he signed them for me and my wife for our wedding. Just ask the guys there though, keep in mind what ones you have tried in the past and use those for references they can help show you around too as to what you like from what you tried…

I would recommend something complex and flavorful, but smooth at the same time. I would go to your local tobacconist and ask them if they carry any “Perdomo” cigars and if not maybe ask them what they could recommend in the way of “CAO” cigars. Those two companies are two of my favorites.

A good mild cigar would be a Fuente Clara. it’s smooth and mild…..just as a good rule of thumb, the darker the wrapper, the more robust and “dark” the flavor.
