Get a Macanudo, very well made and flavorful, but mild. Do not buy anything with a dark wrapper.

Davidoff or Dunhill would be my choice. Very mild and flavorful cigars and very high quality.

Some good smokes for a newb:
    Macanudo
    Ashton
    Butera Royal Vintage
    Fonseca classic line
    Montecristo classic line
    Davidoff
But as a previous poster stated, talk with the tobacconist
As for the comment of not purchasing a dark wrapper – that is not totally correct. Darker wrappers do not indicate a cigars strength or body.
There are many different types of wrappers – maduro, candela, cameroon, Ct shade, Criollo, Habanos, etc Some are the strain of tobacco leaf and others are how they are fermented. The wrapper can contribute up to 70% of a cigar’s flavor (depending on who you talk to). They can be earthy, grassy, creamy, spicy, and the like. However, again – talk with a tobacconist

the best thing to do is go to your local tabacco shop and ask someone who works there. they will know whats good and many times whats on sale…
i usually never spend more than 20 bucks on a good cigar. if you can find a pre-embargo cuban ide spend an extra few bills on that, but DO NOT buy a cuban for you first real cigar, ide say maybe after atleast 15 decent cigars you might be ready for one…
my favorite brand so far is Gurkha. i dont like these weird flavor cigars like Acid! those are gross, but give it a try at some point.
NEVER TRUST THE LABEL. cigar makers have discover that if they make a cool label and box they sell more. alot of great cigars have crappy looking plain ole labels.
i use cigar.com for info but ive never ordered from them i always go to my local place. if you live in minneapolis mn golden leaf in uptown is probly the best place…
